Biography


Alan Wellman is a versatile conductor, singer, and teacher. As an innovative conductor, he has been responsible for the founding of one chorus, expanding and enhancing the vision of several community choruses, and collaborating with peers and colleagues for the benefit of music appreciation.

In 2013 and 2015 Dr Wellman was selected as a conducting fellow at the Choral Institute in Oxford sponsored by Westminster Choir College and St. Stephen’s House at the University of Oxford, UK. Dr. Wellman was appointed Artistic Director of the Claremont Chorale (CA) in 2018, the Northwest Choral Society in 2010, Windy City Gay Choruses in 2005, and has served as Director of Music at various congregations since 2000. Dr. Wellman is on the faculty of The Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA.

Dr. Wellman’s background includes a Doctor of Sacred Music from the Graduate Theological Foundation (Mishawaka, IN), a Master of Music Education from San Jose State University, a Master in Music in choral conducting from California State University—Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Music—vocal/choral emphasis from Roosevelt University. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Concordia University—Chicago where his doctoral research is in the application of Adult Learning Theory to the Community Choral Rehearsal.
